It was two years ago today that we were all was blessed with David Archuleta's very first album. It was the much anticipated album from one of the most amazing "American Idol" contestants ever. I remember when it came out, I made sure I took my bootay right over to Walmart and got my copy of it. I listened to it all day long, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. When I first got it, I only listened to a few of the songs, I just skipped over tracks 6-11. The first time I listened to it, I listened all the way through, but for some reason unbeknownst to me, I didn't like those songs. Eventually I listened to track 6, "You Can", and I fell in love with it! That song is absolutely beautiful!! I think my favorite lines from that song are "If anyone can make me fall in love, you can." and "Baby when you look at me, tell me what do you see? Are these the eyes of someone you could love?" It's such a sweet, sweet song. And I love it not only because it's a marvelous song, but also because when I saw him in concert for the first time on July 29th, 2009, right before he sang that song he waved at me!!!!! :) I was waving at him as he walked down the catwalk that lead into the crowd, and he saw me waving, smiled at me and waved back!! It was such a magical moment for me. I completely spazzed out after that! Haha.
But back to his debut album. The first song that we all heard from that album was his very first single, "Crush". And, I'll admit, when I first heard it, I didn't like it. I used to not like slow songs when it first came out, and of course, I just did not like it at all. Whenever it came on the radio, I would change the station. I don't have a clue why I was such a weirdo back then and hated it, but I did. A couple of weeks or so after it came out, I warmed up to it, fell in love with it, and now it's one of my all time favorite songs! I even performed a contemporary hip-hop dance to "Crush" at my church's 2009 talent show. In fact, as I write this I'm listening to "Crush"! Well, it just changed to "Touch My Hand", but oh well. Haha.
Which brings me to discuss "Touch My Hand". That song is so cool. From the first line, "Saw you from a distance, saw you from the stage, something 'bout the look in your eyes, something 'bout your beautiful face." I was hooked! You could easily dance to this song. I like to dance west coast swing to this song, haha. It's so awesome to see David perform it live too, because he goes around the edge of the stage to all the fans and touches their hands, lol. My favorite line from that song is "I see the sparkle of a million flashlights, a wonderwall of stars. But the one that's shining out so bright is the one right where you are." I would just die if he sang that part to be during a show!
On to "Barriers". I really like that song too. Well, I like them all, haha. I really like the beat of that song. It kinda has that hip-hop sound/vibe. I love the drums in this song too. I usually don't really notice the drums in a song, but this I do in this song. They sound great, haha. It's just a really well written song, with a very nice beat. I love how at the end, the words start overlapping. David's singing one part, while he's singing another part at the same time! Haha
The next song, "My Hands" is a wonderfully sounding song. At first, I didn't pay that much attention to it. I don't know what happened, but I randomly latched onto that song. I was constantly listening to it! David's voice just sounds so beautiful in this song. It sounds beautiful all the time, but I feel like "My Hands" just really showcases his awesomeness :) It's really just too gorgeous for words to fully describe.
So, we shall talk about the 2nd single from the album, "A Little To Not Over You". When I first heard it, it made me cry. It's a break-up song, so that's one of the reasons why. He just sounds so sad in this song, that's what originally made me cry. His music is just so awesome, we can all easily relate to that song. I know we've all been through a break-up where we had a hard time letting go and getting over it. Well, I haven't 'cause I never had a real boyfriend before, but I've seen my friends and family go through it. And I know one day when I do have that bad break-up, I can listen to this song and feel better.
Since I've already talked about "You Can", I shall skip to the next song which is "Running". Yes, I finally came around and listened to the rest of the songs, and I love them all now! Except for one, but we'll get to that when it's that particular song's turn.
Back to "Running". It was actually just a few days ago that I really listened to "Running", and now it's like "My Hands" all over again! I can't quit listening to it. I'm even listening to it as I type, haha. This post is getting really long, so the reviews of each song are gonna be kinda short :( I love how his voice sounds in this song, especially at the end of the chorus when he says "I know somewhere running straight to me." When he says "Me" his voice is just... Ahhhhh! Haha, that's about as well as I can describe it. My favorite lines from "Running" are that line and one other, where he says "I got to have every part of you forever." I just want to cry when I hear that, it's so sweet! Haha.
I'm not going to do a review of "Desperate", because I can't listen to it without crying. It reminds me of a time when I was feeling really down and had a little breakdown. I listened to this song and it helped me get out all I needed to get out. So I don't want to bring back all those memories by writing about the words and stuff.
And, I'm not gonna do a review of "To Be With You" either, because it makes me wanna cry too, haha. I'm a very emotional person, ok?! Lol.
"Don't Let Go" is an ok song to me. I think it's really great for dancing east coast swing. It has a great beat for that, but other than that, I'm not too big on that song. Well, I have my days when I am, and when I am not. This would be one of those "Not" days. Haha. Sooo... since this is a "Not" day, I guess that's the end of the review for this song! Lol, sorry y'all.
"You're Eyes Don't Lie" is awesome. I love how it starts out with the whistling. The beat would be good for dancing Samba, but the words wouldn't work for Samba, haha. I really think this song is like majorly epic! Especially the chorus. Sure, others may not think that much of this song, but I think it's just epic. I think if I had to sum this song up in one word, it would be "Epic". It's just all around a really awesome song. I highly recommend this song to first time listeners, if there are any firs time Archie listeners left out there.
The next song, "Angels", is a very special song to me. It reminds me of my great grandma, Granny. I used to not be able to listen to this song without crying because it reminded me of her. But I can now. I know it's only a cover of a song, not really his own, but he just owns this song and makes it his own. I love his version of it much better than the original artist's (Robbie Williams) version. David's voice is so powerful and strong, yet so innocent and sweet in "Angels". I give it and A+++++++!!
The last song is one that not everyone got, only those who bought their albums from Walmart, and it's called "Works For Me". It has such a simple melody, and simple lyrics too. And, David even helped write this one :) That's what makes it extra special to me :) I think it really does describe David perfectly too. The lyrics, the melody, everything is just David, haha. "Works For Me" was originally my favorite song from the album, and now it's tied between "Crush" and "Works For Me".
Well, there ya go, my review of David's very first album. Happy 2 Year Archuversary to David and all ArchAngels!! :)
